How can I remove a Gasoline smell off of books?
Q. Some gasoline spilled on a few books of mine, and now they reek of gas. Any suggestions on how to get the smell gone for good? I've already tried soap and water.
Asked by Votenic - Sat Oct 4 19:34:58 2008 - Cleaning & Laundry - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Air the books outside - then sprinkle some baby powder between the pages. I think if that does not work - then they will always smell of gas.

A. Wash separately from other clothes .Hang dry. Rewash and dry. The smell should begone. If not washed separately the odor will transfer to your other clothes and you will be worse off than when you started.

A. It might sound a little crazy but when my mother used to cook fish when I was younger she would put out a bowl of viniger which would "obsorb" the oder so to speak. I would say leave the windows cracked over night and leave a bowl of viniger in your car overnight. Also just FYI I throw a cup of viniger in with my sheets when I wash them which makes them extra fresh.

What is the best way to get gasoline smell out of clothes?
Q. My husbands work clothes sometimes smell like gasoline and I dont want to transfer the smell to our other clothes. Any ideas of what works best. I normally soak them before I wash but I can still smell that awful stench.
Asked by Mommy of 2 - Sat Jul 17 14:36:30 2010 - Cleaning & Laundry - 6 Answers - Comments
A. I know of 2 things that will work. Put a cup of sudsy ammonia in the wash water. Or put laundry soda in the wash water. Since gasoline is petroleum based, it leaves an oily film. The best way to get it out is with the ammonia. That smell will go away in the rinse and dryer cycles.

A. use a mixture of baking soda and water. Make it into a paste then spread it over the spill. Let it dry. The banking soda will neutralize the smell. Then sweep it up. Magic smell is gone. Or you could wait about 3 days or so for it to dissipates. Hope this helps.

Brand new Bosch dishwasher has "gasoline" smell that began with the very first wash. What can it be?
Q. Left the house with the dishwasher running for the first time; came back and smelled gas (actually thought there might be spilled gasoline outside). Discovered it was from the dishwasher (yes, I know it runs on electricity, not gas!) After a week: no decrease in smell. Had people over for dinner, and they asked about the "gasoline" smell. Serviceman said there was nothing he could do; call Bosch.
Asked by Jack Dharma - Tue Apr 20 12:29:42 2010 - Cleaning & Laundry - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. The phone number for Bosch service is 1-877-BOSCH99. Start there. I can think of 2 possible problems. The installer or place you got the dishwasher from spilled gas on the insulation before installing it. The plastic parts have a bad chemical in the mix.

A. Bianca, I pulled the following information off the net 2 -3 years ago when I dumped over a five gallon gas can in my trunk and gas leaked all over. Go to a grocery store and pick up a minimum of 6 inexpensive aluminum foil cooking pans. Pick out the largest length and width that will fit in each foot-well of your car and two big ones in the trunk. Pick up one gallon of white vinegar. When ever you aren't driving the car place the pans in the car and fill each one 1/3 full of the white vinegar. When possible leave all the windows rolled down and the trunk open. Leave the filled pans in the car each night for up to 10 days and the gas stink will be GONE. Don't get excited as the car will smell like vinegar for a few days but that smell will… [cont.]

Why does my gar smell like gasoline?
Q. I went to the gas station this morning and an attendant filled the tank. After I drove away, the inside of my car had a strong gasoline smell. I just went out for my lunch break, and the car still smells like gas. The gas gauge is still on Full, so it's not leaking out of the car or anything. Any ideas why the inside of the car would smell?
Asked by bostonGKR - Wed Aug 26 14:01:06 2009 - Other - Cars & Transportation - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Take the car to a shop, the evaporator system [if your car has that...for Volkswagens that's usually the culprit] might be going out. Or maybe one of your gas lines have a little leak...wait nevermind that. Or maybe, there was a little gas leak outside of your car while at the station, like maybe the attendant accidentally got some drips on your paint or something. That was the case with my sisters car...the smell stayed until we hit the highway.

Basement flooded, now I smell bleach and gasoline?
Q. There is over a foot of water in my basement. When I go by the stairs it reeks of bleach, and gasoline? Where did the gasoline smell come from? What should I do? Thanks, but we figured out that it was gas from the lawn mower we had down there.

A. Make sure everything is switched off. Get it pumped out and get someone to come and check it. How about the fire brigade? You need to find out where the gasoline is coming from. Are you near a garage? This could be very dangerous.

Gasoline Smell on Ipod Touch and Earbuds?
Q. Well I dropped my ipod onto my tractor floor and gasoline was on the floor, and now the smell resides on my ipod and earbuds. Is there a way I can get it out? I tried dabbing soapy water on both, but today it is still on there. Is there any suggestions? Please help, thanks!

A. Hey Rinnegan4life, Soap often will not be effective at breaking down the carbon bonds that existing in solutions like gasoline, diesel or kerosene. I suggest that you apply on of the following solutions to your earbuds as they all work to break down gasoline odors. Apply either rubbing alcohol, vodka or ammonia to a paper towel and thoroughly rub down the exterior of the devices. These household solutions will cut through the gasoline and render it odorless. I hope this helps! =)

Who should I call for a terrible gasoline smell in my apartment that has lasted for days?
Q. The other day our first floor apt filled up with the smell of gasoline coming from the basement so badly that we could not go in for hours. We contacted the landlord but they blamed it on something irrelevant and left. Sometimes it is so bad that we cannot breathe, but if we open all of the windows it goes away. The problem is that the weather is going to drop below freezing tonight and we can't open them. We could not find the source of the odor in the basement. When the heater kicks on in the cold I can only imagine that it will worsen since the air comes from the basement. The other tenants in the house have the same complaint, but they are barely ever home so they just left it to us to take care of it. What should we do or who should… [cont.]

A. If you have a strong smell of gasoline don't call the gas company call the fire department. Turn of any ignition sources and leave the building. OK you have called the Gas company. It's not Natural gas. That means that there has been a gasoline spill. If it is as strong as you say. Call the fire department!!! and leave the building.
