How much gasoline produces a barrel of crude oil? Does it produces more or less than a barrel?
Q. I've always wonder if a barrel of crude oil produces... let's say 4 barrel of gasoline or actually produces less than a barrel. Anybody knows?
Asked by Herbie - Wed May 21 20:41:10 2008 - Earth Sciences & Geology - 2 Answers - Comments
A. A barrell of crude is 40 gallons. Gasoline is actually 28 different compounds. There are 40 different formulations of gasoline in USA. The Enviromental authorities require different formulations for specific areas and times of year. The last time I talked with a chemist at an oil refinery they were producing a little over 50% of their crude into gasoline, but this can change dramatically due to demand, how the refinery is configered and on and on. It is more efficent to produce a variety of products.

A. yes it will work, it hasnt frozen unless you live in antarctica. to properly store gas add stabil fuel stabilizer to it. otherwise' it will eventually turn into varnish , which smells varnishy, and is not good to put in any car, even a 1996 regal.

How does diesel in a gasoline car effect efficiency?
Q. I've been told that diesel contains 10%-20% more energy per unit volume than gasoline. So what would happen if you were to put diesel fuel in a gasoline engine?
Asked by Oog - Tue Apr 1 10:30:55 2008 - Engineering - 5 Answers - 1 Comments
A. To answer you exact question. The efficiency would very quickly go to zero since the engine would run very poorly or not at all. The problem is related to having sufficient oxygen to completely burn the diesel fuel and the fact that the diesel fuel tends to not evaporate and only those fractions of the diesel that do evaporate will burn. The remainer remain a liquid and gum up the works. Liquid fuels like gasoline and diesel will not burn as long as they remain a liquid. They only burn if in the vapor state.

Is Gulf gasoline a good gas to use in my 2010 Ford Focus, or would you recommend a different brand?
Q. I wish to keep my new car running at peak performance, and good reliability. Is there better or worse gasoline brands for my new 2010 Ford Focus. It needs 87 octaine.

A. Gasoline is a commodity, like 2% milk, enriched flour, pine 2x4's, staples... The government defines how these items are made, gasoline has different formulas for winter, summer, and 20 other factors. I have heard some people swear for or against certain brands. My experience is that occasionally a certain individual gas station might not take proper precautions to protect their tanks from water or contamination. And I have gotten some "bad gas", but it has happened like twice in my life. Usually a bottle of 'heat', or something to rid your system of moisture, helps. And a dirty little secret..sometimes several different brands will buy from the same supplier. Go buy the cheapest gas you can find, and the lowest octane, your ford… [cont.]

Q. I smell a strong gasoline odor when i start my car? What can this be?

A. It could be a few leak, or a leak in the Evap system. What make and model car is it? If it's a 1996 or newer vehicle and the "Check Engine" lite is on, it's likely an Evap leak (could be just a loose gas cap) If there is no check engine lite on, it's most likely a fuel leak. You should have it checked ASAP!!! A fuel leak could start a fire at any time!

A. Gasoline have about maximum of 6 months (or even less). Most motorcycle riders who store their bikes away for the winter knows that without proper winterization, the gas will be bad in the spring. So within 6 months the gas is definitely bad. It might even go bad before. This stuff will help the gas stay "fresh" little bit longer. Stabil Good Luck...

A. I 'd use it in the car, with a nearly full tank. Then replace the gas in the can with fresh. They make something called STABLE that keeps gasoline fresher or stable longer. Fresh gas makes a big difference in small gasoline engines such as weed eaters.

Some who have been made homeless, but still have their jobs, are living in their cars, what can be done to make this kind of life safer? Where can I find gasoline with the lowest ethanol content?
Q. I am looking for gasoline in the US that has the least amount of ethanol alowed. Are there any companies that sell gasoline without ethanol still? Of course, it would help if these companies were in NH. Why? Because I have a turbo charged engine, I like getter better fuel economy, and I like getting more HP. The fuel is for a car, not a boat. I know some marinas sell fuel with an average or maximum of 10% ethanol, whereas many or most service stations sell fuel with an average or at least 10%. However, I don't think I can fuel my car at a marina. :-)

A. Contary to a another post, you DO get lower mileage with an ethanol blend because of its lower "heat content". There are test kits of alcohol in fuel, here's one: About $4/test. You could do you own water extraction, like in the test kit. But you won't come out ahead economically, because you'll be throwing away the alcohol (it is denatured with methanol and it will have carcinogenci benzene too, so DON'T drink it). Check different retailers, they'll get their gasoline from two or three different refineries in your area. Go to the local refinery or bulk fuel terminal and be amused to see 5 to 8 differently branded fuel trucks pull up. All those companies who like to say their gasoline is somehow better all get it from the some… [cont.]

Whats it matter in the scheme of things. If you feel that strongly about it get her to pay for your drinks after your class.

A. the seat padding/cusions were prob. soaked in gasoline. You can try removing the back seats (seat bottoms and seat backs)and setting them out to air for a while. Otherwise it will be pretty tough to get that smell out.
