Chemistry is the science of matter, especially its chemical reactions, but also its composition, structure and properties. Chemistry is concerned with atoms and their interactions with other atoms, and particularly with the properties of chemical bonds. Chemistry is sometimes called "the central science" because it connects physics with other natural sciences such as geology and biology. Chemistry is a branch of physical science but distinct from physics. The etymology of the word chemistry has been much disputed. The genesis of chemistry can be traced to certain practices, known as alchemy, which had been practiced for several millennia in various parts of the world, particularly the Middle East. From Google Video Search: "chemistry" What would be a really good textbook for self teaching inorganic chemistry? Q. What would be a really good textbook for self teaching inorganic chemistry? I have been trying to look for a really good undergraduate inorganic chemistry course textbook to teach myself. Not sure if this helps but I have taken general physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and calculus I, II and linear algebra. I have not taken physical chemistry yet . I would appreciate any suggestions. I just want something along the lines of a book like Paula Yurkanis Bruice wrote for organic chemistry. Thanks Asked by Rome - Wed May 4 22:49:21 2011 - Chemistry - 2 Answers - Comments A. I own a copy of "Concise Inorganic Chemistry" by J.D. Lee. I use it as a reference text and self-learning; I never took an inorganic class. I searched on the book title: https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=concise+inorganic+chemistry&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a I have been satisfied with this textbook, but keep in mind that I am not that knowledgeable about these types of textbooks. You may want to consider purchasing a copy of "Chemistry of the Elements" by N.N. Greenwood and A. Earnshaw and use it for additional reference as you study. On a fun note, I found this: This is an inorganic textbook from 1918 and you can download a pdf of the entire textbook.… [cont.] Answered by ChemTeam - Wed May 4 23:15:02 2011 What is the difference between applied chemistry and pure chemistry?
Q. This is supposed to be in my book, but I have no idea. I mean, Applied chemistry and pure chemistry... I had no idea that there were such things. >< Asked by i_need_ammo - Mon Sep 1 20:56:46 2008 - Chemistry - 1 Answers - Comments A. Applied chemistry is when you use known knowledge to perform some task for someone (boss; even yourself). Pure chemistry is when you do something to advance the knowledge base.
